Studio Light Patterns

Split

Rembrandt

Butterfly
For this assignment, I got into a group with 3 other people to learn different light patterns in a studio setting. We were each assigned one person to photograph, and Jacob was my "muse." I first shot split, casting a dark shadow over one half of his face. Then came rembrandt, where I made something of a triangle on one side of his face. For both of these, the main light was off center so it cast the beam on the left side of his face. Lastly I shot in butterfly lighting, placing the light far above his head so his nose would create a butterfly pattern on his upper lip. I then brought these photos into Photoshop, lightening and darkening them to extremes to make the light pattern more visible. This project certainly taught me a lot about how to take head shots and will be valuable in projects to come.
